Complete Guide | Top Attractions, Panda Facts & Visitor Information

The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is a sacred destination for panda enthusiasts worldwide and a globally renowned facility dedicated to the conservation, breeding, and research of the endangered giant panda. Located in the lush, green hills on the outskirts of Chengdu, it stands at the pinnacle in terms of panda population, quality of breeding environment, and research achievements. Truly a "panda paradise," it is a place that offers both healing and inspiration to all who visit.

1. Main Attractions

🐼 Panda Observation Guide by Area

The vast park is divided into areas according to the age and condition of the pandas, allowing you to enjoy the various expressions of the pandas all day long.
■ Panda Kindergarten & Sun Panda Nursery School & Moon Panda Nursery School:
This is the base's most popular area, offering the best chance of seeing baby pandas. You'll be captivated by the adorable newborn pandas in their incubators and the playful cubs at the Sunshine Panda Nursery and Moonshine Panda Nursery. Baby pandas are usually on display between July and September.
■ Adult Panda Area:
This is the place where you can see the most panda-like and leisurely behavior. You can observe the pandas' behavior up close, such as how they skillfully eat thick bamboo, take leisurely naps in the trees, and sometimes playfully play with each other. Mornings (especially between 9am and 11am) are the best time to see them feeding, as they are most active.
■ Red Panda Area:
You can also observe red pandas, a different species to giant pandas. They are also very popular, with their beautiful reddish-brown fur and charming faces. You may even be able to see them roaming freely on the walking trails through the forest.

2. Panda Knowledge

📚 Panda knowledge and the role of the base

•    The "Chinese National Treasure" Panda: The giant panda is a living fossil found only in China and a symbol of peace and friendship. Loved worldwide for its adorable appearance and gentle nature.
•    The Challenges and Achievements in Breeding Research:  Pandas have a short breeding season and raising cubs is extremely difficult. This facility has established world-class breeding technologies, including artificial insemination and maternal care, contributing significantly to the recovery of the panda population. Many pandas born here have been gifted as "ambassadors of friendship" to countries around the world.
